Writers, after a stretch of time, may become hermits. We don’t go anywhere, visit anyone, pay attention to the world around us, and when we’re done with a project, we come out of the room as though we were ascending from the underworld, looking for communication and others like us. Most of the time, we find no one such as ourselves, so we go back into the cave to create another masterpiece–we think.
Don’t be fooled, it is NOT easy being a Writer. What makes it hard is not the writing itself, but the junky stuff that makes it hard such as the gatekeepers who keep everyone out: literary agents, editors, publishers. Sure, they say they are helping but most people do not write well, and they know this, but do they really listen to their stories? I know one thing, they do manage to find ways to charge the disembodied manuscripts with advice, guide books, videos–all things that raise their standard of living, while writers live in the cave, waiting to see daylight.
Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating. But still, why can’t they just help people get their stories out. I’ve read bad stories and good stories–My stories always seem to me to be the bad one I never actually submit to anyone, of course….oh.
Maybe that’s what happens to those professionals too. Yup. I get it. Okay, I will stay in this cave until I write nearly perfect and have some really good stories. It’s only been…58 years…
I have one now! I’m working on another novel too! I think I write pretty clearly and creatively. Give me a chance, will you? Sending out query letters today! Oh! I forgot, I have to clean up, wash dishes, clothes, do STUFF! Then I’ll get back to my masterpiece.
