Narcissism, another word for Pride and Ignorance.

It’s Friday the 20th, the worst was done already, although it was a lucky day for me. I got my license renewal for my real estate brokerage on Friday 13, I waited due to a mix-up, for nearly one year! I couldn’t work, I couldn’t do any marketing, nothing. I was ready to throw in the towel, and I got a message: “Licensed.” Wow. Just when I was weary of all the “red tape.” I wonder though if I had not set myself up to fail. I have in the past. I know this.

Sometimes, we tell ourselves things that sabotage our efforts to succeed, like: “they insulted me, so I won’t work there,” or “I can’t follow his act, I’m not that good,” or “they should’ve given me that promotion, I was here longer than he was. I quit.” Yes, things like this-all negative and all self-sabotage, (not to mention prideful). What is the real reason we don’t make it to where we are going? We are either afraid, have no confidence, or are stuck in the past, with voices telling us we will fail. And here is my point: we hear voices and we become Narcissistic. We have been taught to “be proud of yourself.” That is only HALF of the conclusion. Too much pride, not enough parental guidance, then too much failures, breeds Narcissism. Let me explain.

Since you were old enough to understand commercials: “You deserve this,” “You are worth it,” “you, you, you… ” Rather, why not advertise like this: ” if you work consistently and humbly, by saving your money and not splurging on partying, you MAY deserve this, but everything MUST be carefully planned in advance, through goal setting, so everything must be earned.” We’ve been taught since childhood, that (in commercials and some groups too) “we deserve everything,” never mentioning how those who have, have been working and sweating and trying and putting effort into what they have. But for some reason Narcissists think “we deserve” it. No one deserves anything they didn’t strive for.

What about the current controversy over school loans many are complaining about? Why aren’t we working toward paying them down? May be we didn’t get the job we expected to get when we went to college and obtained all those loans. Maybe it’s true that those [stupid] recruiters never said anything about that, but….no matter. We’re adults. We need to. be creative. Either pay small amounts, regardless of its interest sham, or learn how to budget your money, even if it’s a piddly job, with little to look forward to. You can purchase vegetable plants at the cheap when they are small, and grow your own vegetables, how ab out that?

I am only trying to tell you, no one deserves anything they did not work for, nor do we treat others with disdain simply because they were better at planning out their careers. Why claim here is even before what Dr. Once thing I’d recommend: don’t watch commercials, better yet, don’t watch so much television-makes one lazy, honestly. Instead, take walks, and take a pad and pen with you. Write down ideas to make your life better, then work on it.

Everyone should know by now, life is a series of up and down events, like a roller coaster, or a tidal wave! But no matter. We may die tomorrow, but today it’s life and it’s beautiful as you make it. So make it a BEAUTIFUL LIFE and stop being narcissistic, expecting everything to come to you for free. Work can be fun if you change your mindset. Have a productive and happy day!!
